But having seen the conclusion of the anime, I'm thirsty for more adventures of ACROSS. And I recently read that the anime only covers like the first five stories from the manga? Might be worth checking into! And of course, all the glorious fan fiction that's out there!

Last post by Senkusha - 21-Apr-2025 (Mon) @ 07:21:12Yesterday was the first day I actually got to work within Scrivener, as I'm writing my fan fiction, Fatal Exception: Heartstring Purge?, and my first impression: I'm definitely impressed!
While researching on how to use Scrivener, I discovered that I was blocking my own creativity! I'm used to writing old-school style. Make an outline, refine the outline, start drafting the rough draft. And the way I found to be most successful for me, is to construct a bare-bones outline: Inciting Event - Conclusion - The Major Climax somewhere in the middle, and a couple of major plot points before the Climax.
Scrivener makes this super easy, because you have these Note Cards that you can place on the Cork Board. And on each Note Card, you can fill out a synopsis of what's on the card. Turns out that each Card is actually a Scene in your story. Each Scene is an Outline bullet point. This allows you to construct a very loose skeleton -- much like a pencil sketch of a drawing, just to get your ideas down on paper. Now you can rearrange these cards to your heart's content. Clicking inside the Card, you have a blank page. This is where you can write out your scene!
Now for the tips part of this post:
You can have a word counter for each Scene. This works well, but if you have a nested Binder structure, it won't tally up all your subsections. But there's another option called Total Word Count. That will total up all the subsection. There's also graphical display that you can turn on, and if you use Word Count Targets, the graph will appear by each line on your Outline. (Use Total Progress and Total Target).
You can make a Timeline.
There are two ways to track fictional time. The first is using the Outliner with Custom Meta Data. I created setting data, like Location, Timestamp, and Weather. Once you have these defined, you can select to view this data in the Outliner under View -> Outliner. Now I can keep track of my story timing at a glance! The other way is by using the Corkboard. This is more for a visual alignment of scenes happening in time. You can Label each card by color and then change the Corkboard view from Grid to Arrange By Label. This is helpful if you're writing multiple subplots and need a visual method of tracking the scene timing in your story.
Use the multipane:
I like having my outline at the top half of my screen, and my Corkboard/Scene writing at the bottom (I wear bifocals). Using this setup allows me quick access to my outline data and I can write directly within Scrivener!
You can keep all your Research in the Binder:
You can keep all kinds of information at your fingertips within the Binder (the left-panel). Inside it I have text notes, images, even full webpages! I have all my characters broken down by Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary values, and images of each character. There's template data filled out for each character too, so I don't have to go hunt down Wikipedia every time I need a small detail. The best part, I think I can just copy/paste these character profiles into other Scrivener Projects if I wish to use the same characters in another story. I can do the same thing with different Scene locations.
There's a ton of other useful features that I'll write about as I get more acclimated to using the software. But I'm going to go have some creative fun now!

Mihoshi's Galactic Evidence Report / Expanded Mission of the Site
Last post by Senkusha - 19-Apr-2025 (Sat) @ 08:24:53Over the past two days, I've been working to install an automatic category indexing system to the Wiki to remove some of the mundane manual organization and maintenance that needs to be done every time a new anime is added to the database. I've also been working on the Templates that will be used to populate article data within the Wiki.
With the addition of the Wiki, I'm also expanding the role of this website to include fiction beyond just anime discussion and role playing. But I can now see this being a unique place for anime fans to gather together and work on their fan fiction projects as well!
Finally, I'm submitting this site to a variety of directories to help give us some exposure. I mean, what good is having a secret organization of freaks if there aren't any active members? Let's go find some people, and drag them back here Haruhi Suzumiya style!

Excel Saga / Ending Credits
Last post by Senkusha - 15-Apr-2025 (Tue) @ 20:40:03I really don't care for the ED song, as I find it totally annoying listening to a dog mope for a minute and a half. Sure the first time it was cute. But then I got to watching the actual text. Now I have to go back and watch all the Ending Credits on my large desktop so that I can pause them, and actually really read them, because it appears that each episode's ending credits is totally unique! And there's some funny stuff written in there, but it scrolls too fast for me to read on my tiny smartphone screen! I think I'll add these texts to my Wiki...

Excel Saga / What is ACROSS?

Because I don't think it's on the internet, I don't think it's explicitly mentioned in the anime (possibly the manga, but I've only read the first volume, years ago)?

Excel Saga / Not from this world?

This could make sense considering the genres listed are Science Fiction. What are your thoughts on this? I really need to rewatch this series!

Mihoshi's Galactic Evidence Report / We got a Wiki?
Last post by Senkusha - 11-Apr-2025 (Fri) @ 21:34:37Yup, I finally managed to get the Wiki working...somewhat. Members still can't log in, but I'm working with the Development team to resolve that. Even though not much was added this week, that was a major accomplishment. I'm also working on figuring out Wiki Templates to get some Characters added!
I also removed the Home icon on the menu. Most people have no reason to go to the Landing page, so I removed it so I could add the Wiki link.
