Looks of the Site

Just in your opinion, what do you think of the Site?  Could something be improved to make your stay more enjoyable?

I'll start with some of the reasons the site looks the way it does.  (Also, please let me know if something doesn't look right! -- I'll attach a screen shot of my desktop so you can really see what I mean.)

First the theme, Windows XP.  I finally settled on this theme because it brings back fond memories of when I originally discovered anime back in 2002.  Windows XP was the dominant operating system at the time, and in my opinion, one of the most stable -- even with those f-ing Blue Screens of Death!  There's still a couple of things that could probably be tweaked a little bit, like maybe having the menu button at the top highlight in Green to more clearly indicate what tab you're on.  (And I'm still tweaking the colors of some of the site -- like Quotes)

The forum width is set so that it looks nice on a wider screen (as you'll see).  I've gotten some feed back that it looks narrow (on a 15"), but I'm not sure what that means.  (send a screenshot ;) )  I also reduced the width a bit because I noticed that my eyes were straining from going left to right so much to read the more lengthy posts (mostly Role Playing).

Smileys.  I've managed to resurrect most of the smilieys from the ancient Ayeka.net site using the WayBackMachine.  I noticed an issue when I set up the new smiley set that not all of the smilieys were showing correctly.  I had to manually change the setting in my Profile to make it work, and I think I got the setting fixed for everybody.  (See the screenshot.)

The banner.  I tried to find some classic anime characters that would immediately give a feeling of Yes, this is who this site is about. Trying to find a bunch of characters in a standing position is much harder than you would think.  Which is why currently there are only 6 of them.  I chose the heart bubbles background because most of the anime featured here (as of right now) are Shoujo.

The font.  If you're using Windows, you'll probably see that most of the text is using the Comic Sans MS font.  I chose this font because it reminds me most manga that I've read, and has that cartoony aspect to it.

Add-on Modules.  I've got a number of tiny little enhancements to make the site stand out a bit.  One of the main ones you'll notice is the TinyPortal.  This is the Welcome page that you see when first accessing the site.  It lists who's logged in, a description of the site, and all the Role Playing Games that have been recently updated.  There's the Downloads section -- a work in progress.  And I'm figuring out a decent Media library system for images and music.  I have attempted in the past to host a Video Library that offered streaming services, however, I could never get it to successfully work (after trying three different software platforms.)  Eventually, I'll be working on a better Fan Fiction module (a project I started back in the days of Ayeka's Bliss, and I'll be working on a better Role Playing module that allows for character sheet management, more organized posting (between character dialogs) and embedded rule systems use.

I'm sure I'm forgetting some stuff, but let's start with that.  Have fun! :)

While I'm not used to SMF (I'm more on Proboards & Xenforo), I've gotten used to it as I've browsed more & more.
On Proboards we have Simple Tagging where we can click on the members who have replied to that topic. Easier than putting the @ & typing the name.
Is that a possibility?

I'll look into it. :)
