I believe it is.  I know I use it partially in that manner, though it is dependent on the individual anime (Ghost in the Shell is less so, Tenchi Muyo more so).  I have several friends that I know use it in this manner, and I worry about them.  They are in for dissapointment.

Note that I don't assume escapism to be harmful unless it is not acknowledged by the individual.

Just to clarify, do you mean to debate: "Do people use Anime as an Escape Mechanism"?

I know I do.  It's fun to go off into a fantasy world where I don't have to worry about taking our the trash and who to pay with my next three paychecks.  More so, I enjoy role playing in those environments, where any goes.

Yes, that is what I meant.

What worries me is that often times I see people using anime to try and not only forget their problems, but avoid them.  Forgetting for a while is fine, but it is no solution.

If not anime, then Video game,  TV, books, or something else.
They will escape with.
Some people hate facing reality.
And I do not blame them.

There are many methods to escape reality... Books, anime, tv, drugs, alcohol... The key to being healthy is all in moderation. It is good to be able to de-stress for awhile, relax, and let go. But it is bad to forget about reality to the point that reality isn't taken care of.

I use the internet as my escapists, which includes, well, all of the above most of the time.

At times,I wish I could go another world(D&D world) and escape reality.

That would be fun, wouldn't it?   :hehe:

If you even find a way to D&D world. Please tell me.
I would love to trade boring and stress world for a exciting and cool world.

Well, apparently the answer is a definite "yes."

Actually, it may not be all it's cracked up to me.  Once in that fantasy world, you have to deal with unheard of stresses and stuff.  While it's true that it won't be boring (at least at first), it will defintaly be a challenge.  You now have the additional stress of trying to stay alive, and usually there is no "reset" if you die.  Let's think about this for a second.  Not only would you have to deal with this fantasy world, but you would also have to design your own character that you'd play.  Once you desgn him (or her), you'd be stuck as that character, and I know for a fact that most people don't put a great deal of thought into thier characters to try to think about every personaltiy quirk (except for maybe Shidako  ;) )  Then after the first few times to doing battle over and over again, it would eventually get boring, but you'd still have to worry about staying alive.

Nah, for me, I'd rather enjoy to visit those worlds, and watch others within that world, rather than be in that world.

Anime is relaxing along with other forms of media, it can help you be creative etc. Certinely I won't let it consume me otherwise I'll become lazy and do nothing else but watching anime etc and neglect my other responcbilties. The last thing you want is to be lazy and say sod it to the world.

Warlord Vir

At time, I am tempt to wish I could just watch Anime and eat food all day long.

Someday, I might just take a vacation when all my coding projects are done, and just do that!
