Gamer's Geek Guild - Role Playing Systems Discussion => Anime 5e => Topic started by: Senkusha on 14-Feb-2025 (Fri) @ 13:43:34
I was browsing my local gaming store when I spotted this beauty, and just had to add it to my collection! After all, I'm in the market for any and all obscure role playing games, especially those with a bias towards anime inclusion.
However, I must admit, I'm a bit disappointed, I guess is the best word I can find to describe how I feel. Now, keep in mind that I haven't yet had an opportunity to play this game, so my initial thoughts may indeed be misleading. But, this game system appears to simply be a mashup of Big Eyes Small Mouth 4th edition and Dungeons & Dragons 5th edition. I will give the author points for creating something that could potentially bring stubborn D&D players over to the likes of BESM, and I do admire the flexibility that has been worked into the D&D system with regards toward anime characters and plots.
The game offers the stability and known mechanics of Dungeons & Dragons, arguably the most popular role playing game known to mankind right now. And as I just mentioned, it also offers the customization that is needed to run an anime based game from the perspective of Big Eyes, Small Mouth 4th edition. That and the familiarity of the d20 system of mechanics. This book is also very compatible with the standard Dungeons & Dragons 5e rule book, which means all the expansion books as well. Most notably, spells. It's nice to have a library of spells that have already been figured out, calculated, and balanced to be chosen from, right out of the box! Something that BESM still hasn't addressed, despite the demand for it.
Time will tell if I ever get the opportunity to try out this game with a group of friends. (Shameless plug, y'all!) At any rate, what do you think of this game system? Have you had a chance to actually try it yet?
