well divix and xvid are video codex . a compression format.
most fansubbing groups use xvid format. hehehe. if done correct it is almost as good as dvd  in quality, but way smaller files. i can almost fit a full 26 anamie episodes in 1 regular dvd.
so instead of having like 5 or 6 dvds for a full series only 1 is needed.
i do full umm  ripps of my dvds as  high quality xvid format. umm most 30 minuints are about  umm 230 to 300 megs each. and for the auido encoding i use mp3 with ac3 surround stero encoding.
all you need to play divix or xvid is the codexs on your pc, i got a couple install packs, though the ff show is 1 of the best. with the dvd players that have the divix logo on emm they will play divix, xvid formats,so you can like burn evev cds with the divix etc video on emm and play emm.
though i pefeer to use -r dvds and fill emm up ,lol. a dvd will hold about 300+minuits of video with divix, xvid  ;D ;D
hehehe if rmvb is good ,then divix, xvid is 3 x better . it just depends on how encoded, mine have 24 bit  video encoding rate .hehehe
