I was thinking, as I was laying awake in bed this morning, giving myself a foot massage, painfully, I must add, that it seems like everything in Universe is resting on a flat plane.  For example, the solar system, all the planets orbit the sun on a similar plane.  With the exception of Pluto (yes, it will forever be considered a planet to me!), all the planets align as if they are floating on a body of water, like there's a horizon.

That got me to thinking about the model of an atom.  You know, where all the electrons are whizzing around the proton-filled center in all different angles from a zero plane.  But, we can't actually prove this can we?  The placement of the electrons in the atomic model are just approximations.  I'll come back to this in a moment.

While on the grandest of scales, galaxies are also mostly disc shaped, with the bands of stars all falling mostly in a flat plane as well.  I'm sure there are examples of galaxies that do not fit this disc model, but I can't think of any right off the top of my head, and since there's nobody in here to contradict this, I guess every galaxy must be disc shaped, right? (yeah, I know Google exists, but I haven't had my coffee yet... In other words, I'll choose to be lazy until this curiosity forces me to research this topic extensively.)

So my question is, if everything in the Universe seems to align on a horizon, a plane, why wouldn't a atom work in a similar way?  And there is the ancient saying "As above, so below", meaning that everything from the smallest of objects to the largest of entities are all patterned the same.  Or maybe I'm conflating my Universal Laws?  It's been a while, but I've got other stuff to cram into the next two days before I return to my slave labor (job).

Just something to ponder.
