What are your thoughts on Universal Basic Income (UBI)? [Which is totally not to be confused with UTI! ]

Personally, I think we're at a stage in civilization, and technology that we can successfully implement a UBI.  We have Artificial Intelligence (AI) coming onto the scene, and within a period, dare I say, months, it will begin replacing much of the mundane work that employees are doing now.  There are also a number of other technologies that we have becoming available fairly quickly, such as Zero Point Energy, Med Beds, and there's even rumors of Replicators (like in Star Trek) not too far down the road.

I guess the question becomes, how much is too much?  I think UBI should cover all the basics, rent, electricity (which won't be a bill soon), telephone (which should be a basic need in today's tech world anyway), food & water (which should need to be paid for anyway because of the replicator tech), so maybe $2,000 - $3,500 per month?  What do you think?
