So I have an idea for a table top role playing game.  It'll probably start out as a Solo based RPG, however, eventually, I'd like to figure out ways to incorporate multiple players.  This game will be a unique blend of randomness mixed with purposeful choices.

Initial Concept and Thinking:
Most characters within role playing games are humanized beings.  They have strengths, weaknesses, special abilities, and weaknesses.  Much like real life, we as players encompass most of these things as well.  And what better way to explore all the unique combinations that life could potentially offer, than by using a real life system dynamic for the purposes of game play?

Anybody who has attempted to learn complex topics such as Astrology, will tell you that it is complicated.  However, learning this system definitely has benefits.  J.P. Morgan is known for saying "Millionaires don't use Astrology, Billionaires do.".  After a quick dive into the workings of Astrology, and seeing first hand how these universal energies do impact our lives, I can say that I have confidence in the meaning of Morgan's words.

The problem is that most people think of Astrology as a woo-woo fortune telling apparatus.  It's actually a window into the cyclic nature of human thoughts and actions.  The energies of the Houses, Planets, and Signs each relate to specific behaviors, opportunities, and challenges.  However, after my initial review of Astrology, it became apparent to me that all Astrology does, for those that understand how to read it, shows us that History does repeat itself--perhaps not exactly, however, certain themes tend to come up in our lives over and over again.  And much like everything else in Nature, Humanity is cyclic.  In other words, if you understand the patterns of energies that Astrology is indicating, you can correlate historical events and actions from history, to predict what may be around the corner when those same energies come to fruition again.

Take the following hot topics:  The planet of Pluto is moving into the Sign of Aquarius.  Pluto represents transformation, death, and rebirth.  The sign of Capricorn, which Pluto just moved out of, represents organizations, governments, hierarchical structures.  The sign of Aquarius represents humanity, community, technology, enlightenment.  The last time Pluto entered Aquarius was 248 years ago.  What other major world events took place around 1770?  There were lots of revolutions, a change in the way humanity organized itself.  Collectively, we left the age of monarchs, and embraced a system of democracies.

Another interesting hot topic is  Uranus moving into the sign of Gemini.  Every 84 years, like clockwork, something knocks humanity on it's ass and flips us head over heels.  In other words, major wars, revolutions, abrupt changes.  We had the fall of the Dutch empire in the 1690s, the American Revolution in the 1770s, the American Civil War in the 1860s, and World War II in the 1940s.  Each of these major catastrophes occurred while Uranus was in the sign of Gemini.  And guess what?  In only a couple of years, Uranus once again visits it's friend, Gemini.  What's brewing right now in the world?  Yup, the idea of Revolution.

Indeed, learning Astrology is complex.  After all, it's a giant Solar Clock.  And learning this clockwork can take years of dedicated study.  And while I'm interested in learning all this interesting stuff, I noticed that I'm having difficulty remembering everything.  So why not create a game out of it and make it fun to learn?

Framework to Play:
This is going to be a hybrid character designing game.  Part random, part purposeful choice.  So, to start out with, we need to set the clock.  Through my years of game play, I've observed that most people enjoy defining certain aspects of their character.  So, you'll be given a choice of key terms that represent your character's dominant personality.  That's going to set our master wheel.  This will align the Signs with the Houses that will add complexity for your character's personality.  I'm debating right now if I want to incorporate a d30 to allow for fine tuning the alignment of Signs in the Houses.

Next we're going to roll a d12 to determine which House each Planet ends up on.  From what I understand, the Planets represent challenges that you endure with your personality.

Now the Astrology portion is set up.  Now we need to figure out Stats, like Strength, Charisma, Agility, Intelligence, etc.

Game play will involve pulling from a typical Tarot Deck.  Each card has a number of adventures, that can be further rolled against using a d6 to choose a specific adventure, if needed.  Multiple cards can be pulled to create complex adventures.

Finally, the Player will record the adventure in a accompanying Companion Workbook.
