Well, much of this is open to interpertion, but many character in anime like Tenchi are close or on the line between secondary and main character to the point of where is hard to impossible to tell which way they are.

In terms of character perspective, she is a secondary character because SHE doesnt move the plot. She is a piece of the plot, a tool. She could be an inanimate object and would still serve the same purpose

Wow it's been a while since I last visited this topic.

To answer the question from  (what....post  #3?), my answer is this:

Ayeka is defiantly a primary character.  The anime Tenchi Universe / Muyo! is about a love triangle between Tenchi, Ryoko, *and* Ayeka.  That is how I determined that Ayeka is a primary character.

Skuld on the other hand, is defiantly a secondary character because the anime Ah My Goddess is about Keiichi and Belldandy.  It's been pointed out above that Skuld rarely appears, in fact, she doesn't even appear in the Anime until episode 14 out of 26...that's over half the anime with no Skuld!

Now in season two, it could probably be arguable that Skuld is a main character, since the anime is now more about a love story between Keiichi and Belldandy, *with* her two meddling sisters getting in the way...however, I have to see Season two, so I'll leave this conversation at that.
