Okay, so I've been very busy with the site.  Today, I added a spoiler tag (look at the [Sp] button.  I have also been working to repopulate the FTP anime library.  I have added Related Topics as well as changed the Recent Posts to Recent Topics on the Board index.

I'm looking for some good Role Playing ideas!  Please submit them if you have them!  I am also still looking for a neat looking theme.  Earlier today I thought I found one, and maybe it can still work with some tweaking, but as it is, it hurts...but it does have a very strong anime feel to it.  Do you prefer darker colors or lighter ones?  Finally, I'm looking for popular anime titles you all would like to talk too.

Oh, and email should be working now too.

That's about it!  Have fun!

My personal preference on colors is darker usually. Or at least no lighter than it is now (which is fairly light overall). I'm usually good for roleplaying ideas but I'm not sure what you're looking for. Would probably need some parameters.

Okay, I'll keep that in mind.  I'll see what I can do to find a decent looking dark theme.  As for role play ideas, my only parameter is that the game has an anime feel to it (since we are an anime based site).  When I first opened the site, I ran a game, Destiny's Fear, years ago which was heavily based on Tenchi Universe.  I might resurrect that game with group of gamers we have now-a-days if there is enough interest.

You know, for an anime themed sight, I've always felt lighter colors were more appropriate... although something that's predominantly dark purple might work (since it's reminiscent of certain characters' hair.  Mid level blue might also work for a middle ground, for much the same way, but would need to be mixed with other colors to make it stand out a bit more, since dark blue is often viewed as a "neutral" color).  Really, though, I like the sights coloration as is  :P

As for role-playing ideas, here's something to think about:  I've always thought that a series of fairly short lived BESM based Death Note RPGs could work as an interesting way of combining role playing games and a vague Maufia/AYAW type game concept (if done right, it essentially COULD BE Maufia, just with dice rolls and acting in character).  I've actually been thinking of running such a game for awhile, just haven't gotten around to it XD.

hopefully it will be possible to come up with a few themes of various shades and be able to let you all have the option to chose which ever 'skin' you would like from those made. That will come with time though. For now, we will just have to settle with what we can get :P

If somebody wants to design that color scheme, I would welcome it, since I'm colorblind.  I would prefer to have something "non-standard" to set our look apart form every other SMF forum out there.

Don't worry too much about the dark theme. It was just an idea and no one had commented yet. I'm actually not too picky, I'll use anything. So grab one if you trip over it but don't bother going to any effort. If it made a big difference to me I'd make or find one myself. :)

As far as the RPG ideas, I'm going to assume you mean "sorta like the Tenchi series" when you say "anime-feel". There's so much different anime out there it's almost impossible to generalize (imagine trying to find anything that "Akira" and "Spirited Away" have in common outside of both being drawn in Japan).

I'm not up for running a game right now but if you want a hand making a setting or scenario I can help with that. Usually I start by making a setting. If you need a hand with that, the easiest way to do it is to grab a copy of BESM 3rd edition and read the section about on "Choice of Genre Elements" on page 193. It's a little over a page long so not a lot of reading. Pick anything you like, more than one if you want. They can even be contradictory like a period piece set in samurai Japan that mixes in a space opera. I'll dream up a way to make it work. From there you can glance through their "Fan Service" section on page 180 for ideas to spice things up a bit. Quick note: BESM uses the term "fan service" to mean elements that commonly occur in anime shows; no flashing at the gaming table. These are things like cat girls, attack phrases, and terrible cooks. Feel free to add your own as well if there's something you want in there. Scenarios from there are usually not much of a problem. Just play off of the tension built into the setting at first. If it's a campaign and not a one shot adventure you can base the next adventures on whatever the players seemed most interested in or if you're not sure, continue working with the tensions in the setting.
